Resistance bands are elastic loops or tubes that get harder to stretch the further you pull them. Cheap, light and portable, they can mimic cable exercises, add resistance to bodyweight moves or assist you in pull-ups.
Get a set of 3–5 loop bands from light to heavy plus a few mini bands for glute work; tube bands with handles and a door anchor are great for cable-style presses and rows. Most beginners — men and women alike — start with the light to medium bands and move up once the reps get easy.
Inspect bands for nicks or tears before each use, anchor them securely, and never let a stretched band point toward your face.
